Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-Ariz.) announced a new "Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Council" that will "mirror Arizona's diversity," and a Grand Canyon Times analysis of U.S. Census data shows what it will take for the council to achieve that goal.

"The DEIA Council, whose membership will mirror Arizona's diversity, will work with state agencies to promote equity within the government, as well as deliver fair, community-centered services to traditionally underserved groups," Hobbs posted on X, formerly Twitter.

In order to "mirror" the Arizona population, Hobbs' "DEIA Council" would have to be made up of 52.9% who are "white alone," with no Hispanic or Latino origin, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. The council would also have to have .3% of members be of Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander ancestry, and have a 50% breakdown of male and female members.
