The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced a public meeting to discuss planned improvements at the Grand Avenue (US 60) intersection with 35th Avenue and Indian School Road in Phoenix. The event, held in partnership with the city of Phoenix and the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), is scheduled for Thursday, January 22, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Alhambra High School cafeteria.
A formal presentation will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will also be accessible online via Zoom for those unable to attend in person.
According to ADOT, “The project will construct bridges to create a new elevated intersection of 35th Avenue and Indian School Road above Grand Avenue and the nearby railroad tracks. This will remove the existing five-legged intersection at Grand and 35th avenues to improve traffic flow and safety. The project is expected to start construction in summer 2027 and take approximately two years to complete.”
The proposed improvements are part of MAG’s Regional Transportation Plan and are partially funded by Proposition 400, a half-cent sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004.
ADOT manages highway infrastructure across Arizona, including multimodal systems such as highways, aviation, and motor vehicle operations. The department collaborates with various partners on transportation planning efforts designed to support economic connections statewide through projects like this one (official website). It maintains facilities such as rest areas and highway monitoring tools (official website), while working alongside regional entities on corridor studies and traveler information systems (official website).
Jennifer Toth serves as director of ADOT, overseeing planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of Arizona’s transportation systems (official website). The agency aims to safely connect individuals throughout the state while supporting economic growth through its initiatives (official website).
