The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will hold a virtual meeting on Tuesday, October 21, to discuss planned improvements to State Route 24 (Gateway Freeway) between Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) and Ironwood Drive in the Southeast Valley. The meeting will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. via Zoom, with access available at bit.ly/StateRoute24. Those interested can also listen to the meeting in English by calling 833.548.0276.
During the meeting, ADOT will provide updates and answer questions about the SR 24 Improvement Project, which is set to begin in fall 2026 as part of the Regional Transportation Plan managed by the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG). The project will include widening SR 24 by two lanes in each direction between Loop 202 and Williams Field Road, and by one lane in each direction between Williams Field Road and Ironwood Drive. It also involves building new freeway bridges over Williams Field, Crismon, Signal Butte, and Meridian roads, constructing a diverging diamond interchange at Ironwood Drive, widening Loop 202 near its interchange with SR 24, and adding new ramps for improved connections between Loop 202 and Ellsworth Road.
For those unable to attend the meeting, information will be posted on the project website starting October 17. A recording of the event will also be made available online after the meeting.
The project is partly funded by Proposition 479, a half-cent sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2024. It is included in the Regional Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Investment Plan (RSTIIP) and managed by MAG. As the metropolitan planning organization for Maricopa County, MAG is responsible for planning and allocating funding for the regional transportation system, while ADOT designs and builds regional freeway projects included in the MAG plan.
