Arizona Public Service (APS) announced on Mar. 17 that it is offering customers advice on staying safe and saving money as an unusually early heat wave brings high temperatures to the Phoenix area. With spring yet to begin, temperatures have already reached the 90s and could soon hit triple digits, prompting concerns about increased energy use and higher bills.

The guidance comes as many residents may not be prepared for such warm weather this early in the year. APS said that simple steps like replacing air filters, checking door seals, adjusting thermostat settings, and using ceiling fans efficiently can help manage energy consumption while keeping homes cool. The company also recommends comparing rate plans to find one that best fits individual needs, especially those with time-of-use options that allow for savings by shifting energy use outside of peak hours.

APS provides several programs to support customers who may struggle with their bills during periods of high usage. These include Budget Billing to even out monthly payments, bill payment assistance for qualifying low-income households, crisis bill assistance of up to $1,000 per year, and discounts through the Energy Support Program based on household size and income. Customers can also access financial help for air conditioning repairs or replacements if needed. “Customers can explore bill management options, energy saving resources and assistance programs that can help make a difference,” APS said in its statement.

In addition to these services, APS offers Safety Net and Guest Roles programs so friends or family members can assist with account management or receive reminders about upcoming bills. The company encourages customers to check on neighbors during hot weather and reminds everyone to stay hydrated and take breaks when outdoors.

Arizona Public Service delivers power to about 1.4 million customers across Arizona according to the official website. The utility serves a large portion of the state—including border towns as well as rural and urban areas—by supplying electricity along with related services such as service setup, outage support, and billing assistance according to the official website. APS operates as a regulated utility company under its corporate structure according to the official website.

As temperatures continue rising earlier each year, APS aims to ensure its customers are equipped with information and resources for both safety and cost savings.
