The Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) has named 10 startups as awardees for the Fall 2025 Arizona Innovation Challenge (AIC). The cohort consists of Software as a Service (SaaS) and artificial intelligence companies that will participate in a 12-week program with guidance from an Entrepreneur-In-Residence to help accelerate their growth.
This cycle saw 67 applicants, with judges narrowing the pool to 25 semifinalists. Those semifinalists presented their pitches earlier this month, after which 15 finalists advanced to virtual interviews. Judges, including local venture capital leaders such as Clate Mask of PHX FWD and Gregg Scoresby of PHX Ventures, then selected the final group of awardees. Venture capital firms AZ Venture Capital Inc., AZ-VC, and Plug and Play were also represented among the judges.
Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, commented on the announcement: “We’re thrilled to celebrate this year’s Arizona Innovation Challenge awardees—trailblazing startups at the forefront of SaaS and AI innovation. These visionary companies are not only shaping the future of technology but also fueling Arizona’s rise as a national hub for next-gen innovation and entrepreneurial excellence.”
Semifinalists and finalists who were not selected as awardees are invited to join Venture Raise, another ACA accelerator focused on funding strategies, investor pitching, financial health for startups, and related topics.
The AIC began in 2011 with a mission to support promising early-stage businesses in Arizona. Since its launch, more than 160 startups have received awards from over 3,000 applicants. Collectively, these companies represent more than $6 billion in portfolio value across sectors such as AI/SaaS, information technology, bio and life sciences, clean technology, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing. Past recipients include Botco.ai, CampusLogic, Paradox, GT Medical Technologies among others.
The ACA has played a key role in economic development within Arizona. For example,in Fiscal Year 2022, it helped set records by working with partner agencies to create projections for over 24,000 new jobs in the state—surpassing its goal by more than half—and facilitating $10.75 billion in community investment.
