The Arizona Corporation Commission approved on April 8 a reduction in UNS Electric’s Purchased Power and Fuel Adjustment Clause surcharge, which will lower residential electricity bills from May 1 through December 31, 2026.
The decision is expected to provide financial relief to customers as the summer season approaches. According to the commission, a typical residential customer using an average of 884 kilowatt-hours per month will see an approximate monthly bill credit of $18.50.
Chairman Nick Myers said, “As we are approaching the summer heat, I am glad the Commission was able to provide some rate relief for customers in Kingman, Lake Havasu, Nogales and other smaller communities in Mohave and Santa Cruz counties.”
In addition to this change, the commission also approved updates to UNS Electric’s Renewable Energy Standard and Tariff surcharge and adopted Vice Chair Walden’s Revised Amendment No. 1. As a result of these combined actions, residential customers with average consumption will experience an overall bill decrease of about $15.50 per month.
Myers concluded by saying, “As regulators we often have to make difficult decisions as we balance the various interests involved in ratemaking. In this case, I am pleased that our difficult decision to address the PPFAC in 2023 has resolved the problem and resulted in a meaningful reduction in rates for UNSE customers through the end of the year.”
