The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality announced on May 5 the start of the public notice period for the renewal of the Soil Vapor Extraction Unit general permit. The notice period will run from May 5 to June 4.

This announcement is important because it gives residents and stakeholders an opportunity to review and comment on documents related to environmental permitting in their communities. Public participation is a key part of ADEQ’s process.

According to ADEQ, several documents are available for public review, including a copy of the public notice, the permit application, and a draft version of the permit with supporting materials. These can be accessed at https://azdeq.gov/node/11236. Once published, they will also be listed at azdeq.gov/publicnotices.

The City of Flagstaff operates with an elected mayor and council members who establish policy and offer guidance, according to the official website. The city delivers community services through its departments and divisions while promoting public involvement via boards, commissions, and elections. Flagstaff received designation as the world’s first International Dark Sky City in 2001. In addition, zoning codes adopted in 1989 limit outdoor lighting per acre, building upon an ordinance enacted in 1958 to manage outdoor lighting issues—all according to information from the official website.

ADEQ encourages interested parties to participate by reviewing these documents during the open comment period. This step ensures transparency in environmental permitting processes across Arizona.
