An Arizona Department of Public Safety Canine District trooper discovered approximately 447 pounds of cocaine during a traffic stop on eastbound Interstate 40 in Kingman, according to a March 17 announcement from the department.
The incident occurred on March 11 when the trooper stopped a white Toyota minivan for civil traffic violations. During the interaction, the trooper noticed signs that suggested possible criminal activity. This led to a search of the vehicle, where tightly wrapped packages were found hidden beneath rugs in the trunk.
Further investigation revealed that these packages contained cocaine with an estimated street value of $12.1 million. Both the driver and passenger were arrested and booked into Mohave County Jail on charges including transportation of a narcotic drug for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The department said this case demonstrates the effectiveness and diligence of its Canine District troopers. “This case highlights the outstanding work our Canine District troopers do every day. Their skill, attention to detail, and focus on disrupting criminal activity make a real impact throughout Arizona,” the department said.
Authorities have not released additional details about the suspects or ongoing investigation at this time.
