The Arizona Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 19 the launch of a new phase in its statewide public listening tour, aiming to develop a shared vision for the state’s transportation system. The initiative, called Next Move Arizona, invites residents to share their concerns and priorities through an online survey at NextMoveAZ.com and participate in community events starting March 20-21 at Buck Connors Western Days in Quartzsite.

The effort seeks input from the public to help shape a transportation network that connects people safely and supports economic growth. According to the department, creating a unified statewide vision is important to avoid fragmented planning and improve efficiency in funding and connectivity.

“By coming together and hearing everyone’s unique perspectives, we can create a shared vision that gets us where we want to go,” said Jennifer Toth, director of the Arizona Department of Transportation. “We know not all needs are being met, so we’re asking: ‘What’s needed?’ ‘Where can we improve, and where should we aim?’”

ADOT staff have been meeting with leaders and stakeholders since October as part of this initiative. Now they will be present at public events across Arizona to discuss transportation challenges and gather feedback on how best to engage communities throughout the state.

The department manages various facilities such as rest areas, snowplow operations with specialized equipment, and highway cameras for monitoring according to the official website. Its mission includes safely linking individuals while supporting economic development through its transportation initiatives. Toth oversees planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of these systems as reported by the agency’s official site.

ADOT’s work extends across multiple districts—from projects near Grand Canyon National Airport to southern border ports—and involves collaboration with regional, state, local, and tribal partners on corridor studies and traveler information systems. Services provided include traveler updates via AZ 511 system, motor vehicle support services, construction oversight, and infrastructure improvements at airports and ports according to information from ADOT’s website.

As Next Move Arizona continues its listening tour throughout the state, ADOT encourages residents to participate in shaping future transportation plans.
