The Arizona Department of Transportation announced on May 5 that it has completed a $3.9 million project to resurface two miles of State Route 83 through the community of Sonoita.
The work, which covered the stretch between mileposts 29 and 31 just south of State Route 82, involved removing and replacing the road surface, installing fog coating, adding new pavement markings and signage, replacing guardrails, and upgrading drainage. The department said that to minimize traffic disruptions, construction was scheduled only on weekdays with at least one lane open in each direction throughout the project.
This effort is part of ADOT’s broader commitment to maintaining highway pavement and supporting economic activity in Greater Arizona. “This project supports ADOT’s commitment to safeguarding Arizona’s investment in highway pavement and to empowering the economy in Greater Arizona,” the department said.
Arizona Department of Transportation manages various facilities across the state including rest areas, snowplow operations with specialized equipment, highway cameras for monitoring, traveler updates via AZ 511 system, motor vehicle support services, construction oversight, infrastructure enhancements at airports and ports; it also collaborates with regional partners on projects like corridor studies and traveler information systems according to the official website.
