The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that Sundt Construction is the highest-ranking contractor selected for the State Route 347 Improvement Project. The project will focus on a 15-mile section of SR 347 between Interstate 10 and the City of Maricopa, running through Maricopa and Pinal counties, with much of the corridor located within the Gila River Indian Community.
After an extensive review process by the SR 347 Improvement Project team, Sundt Construction was chosen to enter negotiations for a pre-construction services contract. These negotiations are set to begin next week and are expected to conclude in February. According to ADOT, this will allow Sundt’s construction team to contribute input during the ongoing design phase for planned improvements.
The scope of work includes adding one lane in each direction along SR 347 from I-10 to Maricopa, rehabilitating existing pavement along the same stretch, constructing new grade-separated interchanges at Riggs Road and Mammoth Way, and making intersection improvements at Casa Blanca Road and Maricopa Road.
ADOT stated, “Once complete, the SR 347 Improvement Project will provide added capacity, help alleviate congestion, and improve safety and traffic flow along this busy stretch of roadway that drivers depend on every day.”
Construction is scheduled to begin this summer and is expected to take about three years. The total programmed amount for the project is $396 million. Funding comes from state sources as well as contributions from the Maricopa Association of Governments, City of Maricopa, and Pinal County; there is no federal funding involved.
