The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has finished repairs on a 10-mile stretch of Interstate 10 between Tonopah and Salome Road, located west of the Phoenix area. The project, which cost $19 million, began in March and involved milling the highway surface and laying new pavement between mile markers 80 and 90. This section starts about 20 miles west of State Route 85.
In addition to resurfacing the roadway, ADOT upgraded drainage systems, replaced guardrails, signage, and fencing, and completed repairs on a bridge and box culverts. Work was scheduled only on weekdays to help reduce delays for drivers.
Although the project was initially expected to take 11 months to complete, crews finished two months ahead of schedule. According to ADOT, “This project supports ADOT’s commitment to protecting Arizona’s investment in highway pavement and bridges and to maintaining I-10 as a key corridor for commercial and personal travel.”
Further details about the project can be found on the Interstate 10, Salome Road to Tonopah Pavement Rehabilitation page at azdot.gov/projects > Southwest District.
