The Arizona Republican Party has welcomed a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that allows Virginia to remove self-identified noncitizens from its voter rolls. Party leaders say the ruling sets an important precedent for maintaining accurate voter lists and ensuring election integrity nationwide.

The decision comes as Arizona is engaged in its own legal efforts concerning the state’s HB 2492, which requires proof of citizenship for voter registration. The party is currently involved in the case Mi Familia Vota v. Fontes, challenging attempts to weaken this law. Earlier this year, the Supreme Court upheld a partial stay related to Arizona’s case.

AZGOP Chair Gina Swoboda commented on the significance of the court’s action: “The Virginia ruling is a victory for the entire nation. It proves that Americans — regardless of state — will not allow politically motivated interference to dilute the voices of eligible citizens. Arizona has taken a strong stand to ensure that our elections are fair and accurate, and we are encouraged by the Supreme Court’s recognition of this fundamental principle.”

According to party officials, maintaining lawful and clean voter rolls supports voting rights and ensures transparency and accountability in elections. The party says it remains committed to defending HB 2492 and protecting what it sees as core democratic values.

They emphasized that Virginia’s success reinforces their determination to uphold similar standards in Arizona.
