Arizona House Republicans announced that Buckeye, one of Arizona’s fastest-growing cities with over 22,000 new residents since 2020, faces climbing new home prices due to Governor Katie Hobbs’ housing moratorium, putting affordability out of reach for many families.
According to the Arizona House Republicans, Buckeye has experienced substantial population growth, with over 22,000 new residents since 2020. This surge has positioned it as one of the state’s fastest-growing cities. They assert that the governor’s housing policy has contributed to rising home prices and call for solutions to balance growth with affordability.
Zillow reports that the typical home value in Buckeye is currently $395,546, reflecting a 1.8 percent decrease over the past year amid changing market conditions. With a projected population of approximately 119,519, demand for housing continues to rise, exacerbating affordability issues.
The National Low Income Housing Coalition highlights a national shortage of more than 7.1 million rental homes affordable to extremely low-income renters. This shortfall impacts housing access across the country and contributes to rising rental costs for many households.
The Arizona House Republicans hold a majority in the state’s House of Representatives and focus on policies related to economic development and public safety. They emphasize addressing state priorities such as housing affordability and community well-being.
