The Arizona Lottery has announced its participation as a Level 2 member in the 2025 Gift Responsibly Campaign. This initiative, organized by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) and supported by the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL), aims to raise awareness about the risks associated with underage lottery use.

Studies indicate that early exposure to gambling, particularly through products like lottery tickets or scratch-offs often given by adults, is linked to an increased risk of developing gambling problems later in life. The Arizona Lottery’s involvement seeks to address this issue during a period when gifting lottery products may be more common.

Alec Thomson, Executive Director of the Arizona Lottery, stated: “Operating with integrity and protecting the communities we serve is paramount. That includes doing our part to keep lottery products out of the hands of anyone under 21. Participating in the Gift Responsibly Campaign helps us reinforce an important message during the holiday season–lottery tickets are a fun and exciting gift for adults 21+ but are never appropriate for children.”

To promote this message, the Arizona Lottery will run paid advertisements, social media campaigns, and retailer education programs reminding adults that state law prohibits anyone under 21 from purchasing, playing, or redeeming lottery tickets.

Derek Longmeier, President of NCPG’s Board of Directors, commented: “Youth gambling is a growing risk that too often goes overlooked. The Gift Responsibly Campaign plays a vital role in helping families and communities understand the importance of keeping lottery products out of kids’ hands. We’re grateful to the Arizona Lottery for joining this effort and working to expand education and awareness to protect young people from gambling-related harm.”

The Arizona Lottery also partners with both NCPG and the Arizona Department of Gaming’s Division of Problem Gambling on year-round responsible gaming initiatives. These efforts include funding public education campaigns, retailer training sessions, and community programs focused on recognizing signs of problem gambling.
