David Schweikert, Eli Crane, and Juan Ciscomani, along with other House Republicans, have left Washington without plans to return before October. This departure leaves unresolved issues regarding a potential health care crisis in Arizona. The Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions has warned that health care premiums could increase by up to 55% next year if Congress does not intervene.

Concerns are rising as the expiration of ACA tax credits could lead to increased health care costs and potentially leave millions without coverage. This situation comes shortly after significant Medicaid cuts were enacted by Republicans, which are expected to impact more than half of Arizona’s hospitals financially, possibly leading to closures.

The Joint Committee on Taxation has provided data indicating that ACA tax credits primarily benefit working and middle-class families. Approximately 24 million Americans might face higher health care costs if no action is taken by Congress.

Lindsay Reilly, spokesperson for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), said: “David Schweikert, Eli Crane, and Juan Ciscomani refused to address the looming health care crisis they created and, as a result, are skipping town. The DCCC will make sure Arizonans know it was Schweikert, Crane, and Ciscomani who had the chance to extend ACA tax credits — and chose not to.”
