State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne, along with the Arizona Department of Education, will honor six schools in Arizona that have achieved the Blue Ribbon School distinction. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, November 12, at the East Valley Institute of Technology Main Campus in Mesa. The official recognition ceremony will commence at 1 p.m.

The Blue Ribbon School program, now managed at the state level, acknowledges schools for their academic excellence. This recognition is based on assessment scores or efforts to close achievement gaps between different student groups and the overall student body.

This year’s honored schools include Academy of Math and Science in Peoria, Chinle Elementary School in Chinle, Empire High School in Tucson, Maricopa Institute of Technology in Phoenix, Saint John Bosco Catholic School in Phoenix, and Ward Traditional Academy in Tempe.
