Roland Knox has been named the 2025 Salsbury Award winner by the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association (AzHHA). Knox led Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center through significant growth, doubling its size and expanding specialty care services for the local community. His focus on patient-centered care has influenced statewide healthcare efforts.

Knox also served for ten years on AzHHA’s Board of Directors, most recently as Secretary-Treasurer before his retirement earlier this year.

AzHHA announced additional honors during Thursday’s event. Jennifer Mendrzycki, president and CEO of TMC Health, received the Grassroots Champion Award from the American Hospital Association in partnership with AzHHA. Mendrzycki was recognized for her advocacy work supporting patients and hospitals at both local and national levels, as well as strengthening partnerships across southern Arizona.

Mary Naylor, regional executive for Region 8 of the American Hospital Association, presented the award to Mendrzycki. “Jennifer’s example reminds us that advocacy is everyone’s job, including hospital and health system leaders translating what’s at stake for their patients and communities,” said Naylor. “Leaders like Jennifer exemplify the power and passion of our members, bringing their work for their communities into the spotlight.”

Representative Julie Willoughby (R-Dist. 13) received AzHHA’s 2025 Legislator of the Year Award in recognition of her support for healthcare initiatives such as improving interfacility transportation and developing regulations around artificial intelligence in health insurance.

Damien Johnson, director of government relations with AzHHA, stated: “Representative Willoughby is not just a policymaker; she is a problem solver and a collaborator who understands that effective healthcare policy starts with listening. Her commitment to working together and her ability to bridge divides have made a significant difference for Arizona hospitals and the patients we serve.”

AzHHA expressed appreciation for these individuals’ dedication to advancing healthcare throughout Arizona.
