The Arizona Department of Transportation announced on May 12 that the restrooms, drinking fountains, and vending machines at the Interstate 10 Burnt Well Rest Area will be unavailable for most of Wednesday, May 13, due to scheduled electrical system maintenance.

The outage is set to occur from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at facilities serving both directions of I-10 near mileposts 86-87, about eight miles west of Tonopah. During this period, travelers can still use the area to walk dogs, safely use smartphones, and stretch their legs.

Alternative restroom options will be available for travelers. Westbound drivers can access facilities at the Bouse Wash Rest Area at milepost 53. Eastbound drivers are advised to use businesses in Tonopah or other locations as they approach Phoenix.

Arizona Department of Transportation manages various facilities including rest areas and provides traveler updates through systems such as AZ511, according to the official website. The department also works with regional and local partners on transportation projects throughout the state and oversees planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of Arizona’s transportation systems under Director Jennifer Toth.

For more information about all ADOT rest areas or real-time highway conditions, travelers are encouraged to visit azdot.gov/RestAreas or az511.gov.
