The Arizona Cardinals addressed on May 8 the status of veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett, with coach Mike LaFleur saying conversations are ongoing as the team begins its rookie minicamp. Brissett, who started 12 games last season and is expected to be a leading candidate for the starting job in September, has not participated in voluntary offseason workouts so far.

Brissett reportedly hopes for a contract adjustment. He is currently set to earn $4.9 million this season, with $1.5 million guaranteed. All offseason activities remain voluntary except for the mandatory minicamp that will begin on June 8.

LaFleur said, “Everything is good from a dialogue standpoint, but like we said this is voluntary so that’s where we will leave it.” When asked about whether the Cardinals were facing challenges regarding Brissett’s situation, LaFleur added, “He’s played a lot of football. We’re in communication. He knows what the expectation is.”

The Arizona Cardinals are a professional football team in the NFC West division and serve the greater Phoenix area in Arizona; they host home games in Glendale and stand as the oldest continuously operating professional football franchise in the United States, according to the official website.

As rookies like quarterback Carson Beck take part in their first practices with the team, attention remains focused on how discussions between Brissett and team management may impact preparations for training camp and beyond.
