Cochise County Elections announced on Apr. 14 that important deadlines are approaching for the Consolidated Election scheduled for May 19, 2026. The election will include a recall in the City of Benson and charter amendments in the City of Douglas.

Officials said voters seeking more information about these ballot measures should contact their respective city jurisdictions directly. Key dates include a Logic & Accuracy Test on Wednesday, April 15 at the Cochise County Elections Department in Bisbee, a voter registration deadline on Monday, April 20, and the start of early voting on Wednesday, April 22. Election Day is Tuesday, May 19.

Eligible residents who are not yet registered to vote can register online or update their information through Arizona’s voter registration portal. Assistance is also available from the Cochise County Recorder’s Office by phone or via its website.

The upcoming election takes place against a backdrop of educational challenges in Cochise County schools. In recent years, student performance data has shown that in grades three through eight during the 2022-23 school year, seventy percent failed the mathematics section of state assessments and over sixty-two percent did not pass English language tests according to data from the Arizona Department of Education. Among high school students during that same period, seventy-six percent failed mathematics and sixty-five percent did not pass English according to state figures.

Recent results show some improvement: twenty-seven percent of high schoolers passed mathematics on the ACT for the current academic year and nearly twenty-nine percent of third through eighth graders passed math assessments as reported by state education officials.

County officials encourage all eligible voters to review deadlines and ensure their registration is current ahead of Election Day.
