Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers (LAW) said that Gov. Katie Hobbs’ (D-Ariz.) announcement of emergency funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is simply patching a problem created by the Democrat Party.

“Hobbs shouldn’t expect applause for using taxpayer to patch a problem her own Party created in Washington,” Cortes told Grand Canyon Times. “Democrats purposely shut down the government and refuse to allow it to re-open.”

“The blame on loss of SNAP funding rests solely with the Democrats, and now Arizona families are paying the price,” Cortes said. “Hobbs is no hero, she’s part of the problem.”

Hobbs announced Wednesday the deployment of $1.8 million in “emergency” funding to support the potential loss of SNAP funds due to the federal government’s shutdown.

Since the federal government shutdown began on October 1, 2025, the Senate has failed 13times to advance a “clean” funding resolution backed by Republicans — each time blocked by Democrats who’ve refused to provide the 60 votes needed to overcome the filibuster, reported The Guardian.

Cortes previously worked in finance and later became a frequent political analyst on CNBC, CNN, and Fox News, where he emphasized populist themes and Latino outreach. He founded LAW, and organization that advocates for secure borders, fair trade, and policies that prioritize American workers over foreign interests.
