The Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona, along with Salt River Project, announced on May 5 that families are invited to attend the 27th annual “Tapping Into Water Safety” event at the Hilton Phoenix Tapatio Cliffs Resort. The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The purpose of the event is to provide hands-on water safety education and resources to help prevent drowning incidents in Arizona. Organizers say that community partners including the Phoenix Fire Department, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and the YMCA will participate in providing demonstrations and information.

Attendees will have opportunities to watch a live mock drowning demonstration at 11 a.m., participate in CPR demonstrations, and engage with local organizations about water safety. The event will also feature music, family entertainment, raffles, and free resources such as life jackets and educational materials while supplies last.

According to organizers, “the family-friendly event will offer an engaging and educational experience focused on water safety.” They said activities are designed so families can recognize risks around water and learn how to respond during emergencies.

The gathering is open to all members of the community at no cost. It will be held at the Falls Water Village located at the northeast corner of the resort at 11111 N. 7th Street in Phoenix.

As part of ongoing efforts by multiple organizations committed to reducing drownings in Arizona, this annual event aims to equip families with practical skills for safer experiences around pools or other bodies of water.
