Drivers in northeast Phoenix now have increased capacity on the eastbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) ramp to southbound State Route 51, following the opening of a second lane at the interchange. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) completed this improvement after a weekend closure.
The project began last September and included not only widening the ramp but also installing new overhead signs along eastbound Loop 101 between Cave Creek Road and SR 51. Additionally, crews constructed a new concrete barrier along a curved section of the ramp.
This expansion is part of a $3.6 million initiative funded through the Maricopa Association of Governments’ regional transportation plan. ADOT managed the project in partnership with the City of Phoenix.
According to ADOT, “There’s more room for drivers who use the eastbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) ramp to southbound State Route 51 in northeast Phoenix.”
ADOT provides real-time highway conditions on its Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov and through the AZ511 app, which is available for both Apple and Android devices. Updates are also shared via its X/Twitter feed, @ArizonaDOT.
The Arizona Department of Transportation oversees highway infrastructure and transportation services statewide, managing multimodal systems that include highways, aviation, and motor vehicle operations. The department handles planning, construction, maintenance, and works with partners on projects such as traveler information systems and infrastructure improvements. More information about ADOT’s work can be found on its official website.
