Fountain Hills, Arizona, has adopted a resolution to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), spearheaded by Vice Mayor Allen Skillicorn. The resolution aims to enhance public safety by facilitating federal enforcement of immigration laws within the town. Skillicorn emphasizes that the measure is designed to protect the community from individuals involved in serious crimes such as drug trafficking and assault.
“This is not about politics; it’s about protecting our community from violent, criminal illegal aliens who threaten public safety,” Skillicorn said. He argues that proactive cooperation with ICE can prevent potential tragedies and ensure the safety of residents.
However, the resolution has faced criticism from some local officials. Councilperson Brenda Kalivianakis criticized it as “a solution looking for a problem” and labeled it as “virtue signaling.” Despite this opposition, Skillicorn maintains that dismissing potential threats is shortsighted and stresses the importance of foresight in saving lives and resources.
The resolution seeks to unify the town under a commitment to law and order while respecting federal authority. Skillicorn believes that Fountain Hills sets an example by choosing proactive protection over reactive measures.
