GateWay Community College in Phoenix is set to host an HVAC Career Fair on October 15, from 3 to 6 p.m. at its Washington Campus. The event aims to connect students and community members with training and career opportunities in the HVAC-R industry, which is experiencing high demand both locally and beyond.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour GateWay’s modern HVAC lab, interact with instructors, and learn about the college’s certificate and associate degree programs. These programs cover a range of skills from entry-level training to advanced techniques necessary for repairing, installing, and servicing systems in commercial and residential settings.

Dr. Tom Nevill, Vice President of Academic Affairs at GateWay, highlighted the flexibility of their programs: “Our residential program can be completed in around a year, and then we have an Associate’s Degree program that is more of the two-year program.” He also mentioned a partnership with Johnson Controls, which handles commercial HVAC for large industries like Chase Field.

The event will feature networking opportunities with local industry partners such as Johnson Controls, APS, and the City of Phoenix/Sky Harbor. Dr. Amy Diaz, President of GateWay Community College, emphasized the value of this event: “This event is a chance for anyone interested in the skilled trades to see what a career in HVAC could look like.”

GateWay boasts a 100% short-term completion rate for its HVAC students over the past three years. The average age of these students is early 30s, and they receive practical training that prepares them for immediate employment. Dr. Diaz noted that former students have significantly contributed to Maricopa County’s economy: “The net impact of GateWay’s former students currently employed in the county workforce amounted to $491.5 million in added income in FY 2023-24.”

The open house will take place at GateWay’s Washington Campus located at 108 N. 40th Street, Phoenix. Admission is free but RSVPs are encouraged through their website https://www.gatewaycc.edu/hvac-open-house.
