Arizona gubernatorial candidate Karrin Taylor Robson has expressed concerns over the state’s public school system, stating that it is failing to meet academic standards. She has pledged to expand school choice and empower parents in an effort to improve education outcomes across Arizona.
“Arizona’s public schools are failing our kids,” said Taylor Robson. “The problem is not school choice. School choice has allowed thousands of Arizona families to escape failing schools and get their children the education they deserve. As Governor, I will protect school choice, defend parents’ rights, and make Arizona’s education system the strongest in the nation.”
Arizona’s education system has been grappling with several persistent issues, including low literacy rates and teacher shortages. According to statewide assessments, only about 41% of third graders in Arizona read proficiently. Education reform advocates like Taylor Robson are advocating for increased accountability and parental choice as potential solutions.
National assessments have placed Arizona near the bottom in terms of reading and math proficiency, ranking 50th among U.S. states in several key performance indicators. Advocates suggest that targeted reforms and expanded school choice could help address these challenges.
The state’s Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program currently provides over 70,000 Arizona families with funds to select private, charter, or home-based education options. Studies indicate that participants report higher satisfaction levels and improved individualized learning outcomes.
Taylor Robson is a business leader, attorney, and Republican candidate for Governor of Arizona. She has been a longstanding advocate for educational reform and economic growth and previously served on the Arizona Board of Regents, where she helped oversee the state’s public university system.
