The Paradise Valley Unified School District announced on May 11 that the Horizon High School DECA Community Service Team was recognized for its efforts at the International Career Development Conference.
The recognition highlights the impact of student-led initiatives in addressing food insecurity and supporting local communities. The project involved collecting non-perishable food donations to benefit those in need.
Team members Lainey Moskowitz and Rhea Kapur partnered with St. Vincent de Paul for their community service project. Their efforts resulted in collecting over a thousand pounds of non-perishable food, earning them an invitation to join St. Vincent’s 1000-Pound Club. According to the announcement, being part of this club means members are contributing to offering hope, dignity, and support to people facing hardship.
“PVSchools and Horizon High School are proud of Lainey and Rhea for their hard work and making this project come to life,” said district representatives.
Paradise Valley Unified School District serves the Paradise Valley area in Arizona, operates under a board of school trustees, promotes anti-racism, equity, inclusion, focuses on engaging students through quality instruction and dynamic learning experiences, offers community learning centers as well as magnet programs, and specializes in public schooling according to the official website.
District officials encourage anyone experiencing food insecurity to reach out to one of The Society of St. Vincent de Paul locations.
