The Judicial Branch of Arizona in Maricopa County recognized its Probation Communications team for their ongoing support to public safety operations during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, which is observed annually in the second week of April.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week highlights the contributions of telecommunication professionals who serve as a vital link between law enforcement, probation officers, and the community. The recognition underscores the essential role these individuals play in ensuring safety and effective communication throughout the county’s justice system.

Adult Probation Chief Michael Cimino said, “The department performs valuable work that enhances community safety through its service to those under supervision and to community and law enforcement stakeholders. Doing that work effectively is made possible by teams at the Branch like our Communications Center. They staff the center every hour, every day of the year, providing continuous monitoring of officers in the field, taking phone calls from law enforcement, the community, and our staff, further enhancing our service delivery. They represent the Branch’s commitment to excellence in their approach to their work, and we are grateful for their service to the Branch.”

The Probation Communications Center operates around-the-clock throughout the year. Its personnel are responsible for monitoring officers in real time using multi-channel radio communications and computer-aided dispatch systems. This support extends across Adult and Juvenile Probation staff as well as Judicial Branch Security teams. The team coordinates critical information received from law enforcement agencies, members of the public, and other sources while maintaining constant contact with field personnel.

Juvenile Probation Chief Eric Meaux said, “Our work with juveniles and families in the community is impactful and meaningful, and it equally requires a constant focus on safety both in detention and the field. That safety is strengthened every day by skilled professionals who provide real-time monitoring, coordination, and communication behind the scenes. We are grateful for their dedication, professionalism, and steady presence. Their work delivers an essential layer of protection and support ensuring our officers can respond effectively and continue serving with confidence.”

Director of Judicial Branch Security Sean Gibbs also expressed appreciation: “We would like to express our sincere gratitude… Behind every hero is a guardian looking out for them… Thank you; you’re unseen heroes of public safety.”

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week began in 1981 with Patricia Anderson at California’s Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office before being officially recognized by Presidential Proclamation signed by President William J. Clinton in 1994.
