Work to improve traffic flow on 75th Avenue at Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) in Phoenix will begin Sunday night, February 1, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Lane restrictions are expected to last for more than two months. Drivers are advised to anticipate delays and consider using alternate routes such as 67th or 83rd avenues.

Starting at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, the section of 75th Avenue between Rose Garden Lane and Arrowhead Clubhouse Drive will be reduced to one through lane in each direction. The work zone includes the bridge over Loop 101, where crews are adding a third left turn lane for southbound traffic entering eastbound Loop 101.

Single left-turn lanes will remain open on the bridge, allowing access to Loop 101 and Beardsley frontage roads. However, drivers should expect delays and consider alternate routes including 67th or 83rd avenues.

The eastbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 75th Avenue has been closed since January 4 for reconstruction and is expected to remain closed for two months. Additionally, the eastbound off-ramp at 35th Avenue was closed for two months starting January 26.

These improvements are part of ADOT’s larger $140 million Loop 101 widening project between I-17 and 75th Avenue that began in September 2024. The project aims to add new lanes in both directions and make other enhancements along this corridor. Completion is scheduled for spring of 2027.

ADOT is managing this project in collaboration with the cities of Phoenix, Glendale, Peoria, and the Maricopa Association of Governments—the metropolitan planning organization for greater Phoenix. Funding comes from Proposition 400, which was approved by voters in 2004 as a countywide half-cent sales tax dedicated to transportation improvements.

According to its official website, the Arizona Department of Transportation oversees highway infrastructure statewide, manages multimodal systems including highways and motor vehicle operations, collaborates with partners on projects like traveler information systems and infrastructure improvements, and works to link communities while supporting economic growth through its operations.

Real-time highway conditions can be found on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov or via the AZ511 app available for Apple and Android devices. Updates are also provided through ADOT’s X feed @ArizonaDOT.
