Mesa Animal Control is urging residents to take precautions as triple-digit temperatures are expected soon, according to a May 11 announcement. The organization warns that extreme heat can pose serious risks for pets, including dehydration, burned skin and paws, and potential drowning hazards in pools.
This reminder comes as the city prepares for another hot season, emphasizing the importance of pet safety during high temperatures. Mesa Animal Control Supervisor Miguel Hernandez said, “A parked car can become an oven in minutes. Don’t leave pets behind, love them enough to leave them home.”
Leaving an animal unattended in a vehicle intentionally, knowingly or recklessly is classified as a class one misdemeanor under Arizona law. Offenders may face up to six months in jail, three years of probation and a $2,500 fine.
Mesa serves more than 515,000 residents and is the 36th largest city in the United States; it operates under a council-manager government structure and provides essential services such as public safety and utilities according to the official website.
