NAU Athletics honors student-athletes at 12th annual Louie’s Awards ceremony

Northern Arizona University celebrated its top athletic achievements on April 27 at the 12th annual Louie’s Awards, presented by Desert Financial Credit Union and the university’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The event, held at Prochnow Auditorium, recognized outstanding performances from the spring 2025, fall 2025, and winter 2026 seasons.

The awards highlighted individual and team accomplishments across several sports. Colin Sahlman was named Male Athlete of the Year after winning the Big Sky cross country title and a national championship in indoor track’s 3,000 meters. Sahlman also set a collegiate record in the 800 meters at the Millrose Games. Grace Wesche received Female Athlete of the Year for her performance as a diver at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, where she placed 21st on the three-meter springboard—an all-time best finish for an NAU diver.

The volleyball team earned five awards including Female Team of the Year and Team Record-Breaking Performance following their Big Sky regular season championship. Individual winners from volleyball included Keira Hall (Silent Leader), Lilly Holmes (Female Ironjack), and Ken Murphy (Coach of the Year). Academic excellence was also recognized: Cael Grotenhuis and Elsa Musselman were named William M. “Bill” Clements Top Scholars; golfer Lizzie Neale received recognition for her dedication both academically and athletically; while soccer claimed top team GPA honors with the Sharp Axe Award.

Northern Arizona Lumberjacks includes distinguished alumni inducted into the Big Sky Conference Hall of Fame according to its official website.
