During a recent Senate Finance Committee hearing, Chad Heinrich, State Director of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) in Arizona, spoke in favor of aligning the state tax code with federal tax forms. He emphasized the urgency for policymakers to act as the tax filing season is already underway.

“Our small businesses are sending tax forms to folks, are receiving tax forms, and are actively in tax season, but we don’t know what the state is going to take from our 2025 gross income yet,” Heinrich said. “It is imperative that we take action.”

Heinrich also encouraged lawmakers to fully adopt federal business expensing provisions. “Moving forward, we would urge you to conform with the business expensing provisions that were included at the federal level. These are gamechangers for the small business community, allowing expensing of our investments upfront so we see some tax benefit as we’re building, hiring people, and buying equipment.”

The NFIB plays an active role in advocating for small and independent businesses throughout Arizona and across all 50 states. The organization provides legislative updates and resources aimed at supporting economic policies favorable to small businesses in Arizona. Through its advocacy efforts and provision of compliance tools and research on economic conditions, NFIB enables local entrepreneurs to participate in shaping policy decisions affecting their operations (official website).

The full testimony by Heinrich can be viewed online starting at the 11:00 minute mark.
