Northern Arizona University Athletics secured the Big Sky Women’s All-Sports Trophy for the 11th time in school history and the fifth time in the last six years, according to a June 1 announcement from Farmington, Utah.

The trophy standings are determined by a formula that considers each school’s regular season finish or conference tournament/championship result across all conference-sponsored sports. Points are awarded based on regular season finishes for basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball and tennis. For track & field, cross country and golf, points are given based on championship results. Indoor and outdoor track & field points are averaged into one score.

“I’d like to congratulate the student-athletes, coaches and staff of our women’s programs for capturing the Big Sky Women’s All-Sports Trophy for the second consecutive year,” said Deputy Athletic Director of Internal Operations/SWA Beth Vechinski. “Their dedication to championship excellence is apparent and this is an outstanding honor for our entire Athletic Department. All in all, the 2025-26 season was another extremely successful one for our department, and we’re proud of all of our student-athletes for representing NAU Athletics with the highest standard.”

Since 2016-17, Northern Arizona women have won seven out of nine possible trophies; there was no award in 2019-20 due to COVID-19. The Lumberjacks’ total of 11 wins remains unmatched in the Big Sky Conference. This year’s final score was 7.86 points—surpassing Montana State’s 7.25.

During this season, Northern Arizona posted championships in women’s cross country (seventh consecutive title), volleyball (first since 2018), indoor track & field (fifth straight), and golf (first since 2022). The team also finished second in women’s outdoor track & field as well as tennis. While not included toward this trophy calculation, NAU’s swimming & diving team earned its thirteenth consecutive conference title during its first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation season.

Northern Arizona men placed third overall but captured five Big Sky Championships: cross country; indoor and outdoor track & field; tennis regular season; and tennis tournament titles—totaling ten department championships during the academic year.

Northern Arizona Lumberjacks includes distinguished alumni inducted into the Big Sky Conference Hall of Fame; has excelled particularly in cross country and track & field with national titles among alumni; promotes student-athlete development through comprehensive support services; features facilities such as Walkup Skydome and Lumberjack Stadium; has earned recognition for academic success through frequent placements on Big Sky Conference All-Academic Teams; and competes as part of the Big Sky Conference—all according to the official website.
