A section of Business 40 in Holbrook has undergone a pavement upgrade, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). The project focused on a mile-long stretch known as Navajo Boulevard, which serves more than 50 businesses and links several highways to the Navajo Nation.
The $2.1 million improvement effort began in September 2024 and included replacing pavement between Crestview Drive and Joy Nevin Avenue. Additional work involved installing new concrete sections at the intersections with Florida and Erie streets. ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps were also added at 24 locations to improve accessibility for residents moving between the street and local storefronts.
ADOT coordinated with city officials to reduce business disruptions by scheduling most construction activities overnight. The agency described the project as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance transportation safety and support economic activity across Arizona, particularly along routes connecting Northeast and Central Arizona.
“This is another way ADOT works to safely connect people and empower the economy across Arizona, in this case on a major route between Northeast and Central Arizona. The project also supports ADOT’s commitment to protecting Arizona’s investment in pavement.”
More details about the project can be found on the ADOT website.
