No mainline freeway closures are planned for the Phoenix area this weekend, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). The agency advises drivers to remain attentive and prioritize safety, especially in work zones.

Some ramp closures are scheduled to end before Labor Day weekend. Specifically, eastbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) ramps to both north- and southbound Interstate 17 are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. on Friday, August 29, after concrete pavement replacement. ADOT recommends that drivers consider alternate routes during this period. Detours include using eastbound Loop 101 at 35th Avenue, with options to travel north to Deer Valley Road or south to Union Hills Drive. Drivers can also use eastbound Loop 101 to southbound State Route 51 for access to downtown Phoenix.

ADOT notes that construction schedules may change due to weather or other factors. The agency is responsible for planning and building new freeways, adding lanes, and making other improvements in the Phoenix area as part of the Regional Transportation Plan for Maricopa County.

Funding for most current projects comes from Proposition 400, a sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004. In November of last year, voters passed Proposition 479, which extends the existing half-cent sales tax for future transportation projects in the region.

For real-time updates on highway conditions, travelers can visit ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at https://az511.gov/, use the az511 app available for Apple or Android devices, or call 511.

“Drivers should always focus on safety when behind the wheel, including in all work zones,” according to ADOT.
