U.S. Representative Andy Biggs has criticized Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs for allegedly taking credit for federal Republican tax cuts she previously opposed. Biggs urged voters to scrutinize Hobbs’ tax record.

“After calling the Working Families Tax Cut a “betrayal” and opposing its passage, Katie Hobbs now shamelessly wants to take credit for the tax cuts President Trump and Republicans in Congress delivered for Arizona families,” said Biggs. “She will say and do anything to get re-elected; Arizonans cannot believe a word Katie Hobbs says.”

According to AZ Free News, Governor Hobbs issued an executive order directing Arizona’s Department of Revenue to update state tax forms. This move has been met with criticism from Republicans who argue that Hobbs is rebranding federal relief from former President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” as her own “Middle Class Tax Cuts Package.” Biggs and other GOP leaders contend that the order simply aligns with federal law and does not introduce any new state-created tax cuts, suggesting it was presented in a way to politically benefit Hobbs. Legislative Republicans assert that Arizonans should be informed that the Working Families Tax Cut originated from Trump and congressional Republicans, not the governor.

The “One Big Beautiful Bill” altered federal tax regulations for workers and retirees by expanding the standard deduction, maintaining lower marginal rates, and establishing the Working Families Tax Cut. According to IRS guidance, benefits include larger deductions for some filers, additional relief for seniors, and favorable treatment for certain types of income such as qualifying tips and overtime. The law also adjusts deduction rules and credits related to family size, caregiving responsibilities, and retirement savings.

H.R. 1, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” passed through Congress on narrow party-line votes with Republican support including Rep. Andy Biggs while Democrats opposed it. Official records indicate Arizona’s Democratic delegation voted against it while GOP members supported the measure which delivered the Working Families Tax Cut along with other middle-class reliefs. Before its final passage, Governor Hobbs publicly criticized the legislation as harmful and fiscally reckless, opposing the Republican tax agenda she is now accused of trying to claim.

Andy Biggs represents Arizona’s 5th Congressional District and is a former Arizona Senate president known for his alignment with the America First agenda on issues like border security and pro-growth tax policy. In Congress, he serves on influential committees and is part of the Freedom Caucus, positioning himself as a leading conservative critic of expansive government policies.
