U.S. Representative David Schweikert honored 21 local students who received appointments to U.S. service academies, setting a new record for his office, according to a June 3 announcement.
“These students have earned an opportunity that takes discipline, character and a commitment to service,” Schweikert said. “It was a pleasure to meet them and their families as they prepare to represent Arizona and serve our country. We are very proud of them.”
Each year, members of Congress may nominate qualified students from their districts to attend U.S. service academies. Students who receive appointments are provided a fully funded four-year education and commit to serve for at least five years after graduation.
Schweikert’s office is currently accepting applications for the next nomination cycle. High school seniors in Arizona’s 1st Congressional District for the 2026-27 school year may apply through the online application portal by Sept. 25, 2026. Students can begin their applications at https://schweikert.house.gov/service-academy-form/. For questions about the process, Chelsea Lett serves as the service academy coordinator and can be reached at (480) 946-2411 or Chelsea.Lett@mail.house.gov.
David Schweikert has served in the U.S. Congress representing Arizona’s 1st District since 2011 and previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995, according to his official office.
