PHOENIX – Small business owners Rene and Heather LeBlanc, members of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), have expressed support for the recent decision by President Trump and Congress to make the Small Business Deduction permanent. In an op-ed published in the Phoenix Independent, they detailed how this policy change is affecting their commercial air conditioning company.

According to the LeBlancs, “And most importantly, we’re better able to help our workers thrive. Over the few years, the tax cut enabled us to give our workers an unanticipated but much-needed raise, retaining the people we need to succeed. We were even able to pay a greater share of their health care costs. Now, with permanent relief, increased wage hikes are manageable for the foreseeable future.”

They described how previous temporary tax cuts allowed them to pay off business loans faster and invest in new equipment such as fleet trucks and a forklift. The permanence of the deduction now gives them confidence to continue investing in their operations and workforce.

The LeBlancs also noted that without this extension, they would have faced higher taxes that could have led to raising prices or cutting costs.

They wrote: “We’re grateful that our leaders in Washington delivered for us. They’ve given us the immediate confidence to keep growing, investing and giving back. […] That’s the power of this permanent tax relief: It will make our state’s future permanently brighter.”

The NFIB has encouraged small business owners to contact elected officials about what making the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction permanent means for their businesses.
