Daytime closures are planned for a section of State Route 288 north of Roosevelt Lake on Wednesday, November 12, and Thursday, November 13. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will carry out the closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day between mileposts 271 and 276. The closure area starts about 12 miles north of the intersection with SR 188.

The scheduled work is necessary for crews to excavate at milepost 273.8 and replace a culvert that was damaged during storms in October. The affected area includes the Billy Fire burn scar.

ADOT advises drivers who need to reach the community of Young from SR 188 to use an alternate route: take SR 188 west to SR 87, travel north through Payson to SR 260, then head east before turning south onto Young Road at milepost 284.7. This detour covers approximately 120 miles and could add around two and a half hours to travel times between SR 188 and Young.

According to ADOT, “The construction schedule is subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors.”
