A road rage incident led to a shooting and a crash near Interstate 10 and 32nd Street in Phoenix on April 9. Authorities said an altercation began around 5 a.m. when a male suspect driving a Dodge Charger fired at the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu, striking his own vehicle before fleeing.

The victim followed the suspect off I-10 while contacting emergency services. As the pursuit continued, the suspect lost control of his vehicle, which overturned after leaving the roadway. The victim’s car also left the roadway and collided with the overturned vehicle.

After both vehicles crashed, police said the suspect exited his car and robbed the victim. Officers from the Phoenix Police Department arrived soon after and detained the suspect at the scene. A firearm believed to have been used was found nearby in landscaping.

Eder Soto Torres, age 18 of Phoenix, was identified as the suspect. He was booked into Maricopa County Jail on charges including drive-by shooting, aggravated assault, and armed robbery with bond set at $100,000. The Arizona Department of Public Safety Major Crimes Unit is continuing its investigation.

Officials are reminding drivers that safety is paramount during aggressive driving incidents or road rage encounters: “Road safety is our priority. Keep your cool, avoid confrontations, and call 911 if you feel unsafe.”
