PHOENIX–Attorney General Kris Mayes announced a State Grand Jury indicted Troy Wagner with charges of Fraudulent Schemes and Artifices, Trafficking in Stolen Property, and Failure to Pay State Taxes. Wagner is accused of buying stolen products from numerous thieves and shoplifters, advertising them on his eBay page, and selling them to unsuspecting buyers. Wagner made approximately $300,000 in profit in a four-year period.

A search warrant of Wagner’s apartment found an additional $275,000 in retail products waiting to be sold. The Gilbert Police Department arrested Wagner on the Grand Jury warrant. The charges are based on an investigation conducted by detectives with the Gilbert Police Department, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, and investigators from: Target, Home Depot, CVS, Walgreens, Safeway, and Kroger.

“Organized retail theft and fraud have an impact on every Arizonan. From the store owners and businesses suffering losses, to regular customers facing increased prices resulting from theft,” said Attorney General Mayes. “In addition, the emergence of online marketplaces trafficking in stolen products creates a dangerous situation for unsuspecting buyers who can no longer trust the integrity of the products they purchase.”

Assistant Attorney General Brian Guerrero is prosecuting this case.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
