The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that one freeway closure will take place over the weekend from October 31 to November 3 as part of ongoing improvement projects. Drivers are advised to plan for extra travel time and use detour routes during these restrictions.
Northbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) will be closed between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive/Pima Road from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project. The northbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Via de Ventura and 90th Street will also be closed. ADOT recommends alternate routes, including westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) to northbound State Route 51 to reach Loop 101. Traffic exiting northbound Loop 101 at Shea Boulevard can travel west to northbound Scottsdale Road.
Additionally, the eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) Gilbert Road on-ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until noon Sunday for another widening project. Drivers can access eastbound Loop 202 at Cooper or Lindsay roads instead.
“Schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or other factors,” according to ADOT.
ADOT is responsible for planning and constructing new freeways, additional lanes, and other improvements in the Phoenix area as part of the Regional Transportation Plan for Maricopa County. Most current projects receive funding from Proposition 400, a sales tax approved by voters in Maricopa County in 2004. In November of last year, voters approved Proposition 479, which extends this half-cent tax to support future transportation initiatives in the region.
For real-time highway conditions, travelers can visit ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at AZ511.gov, use the az511 app available for Apple or Android devices, or call 511.
