The Arizona Department of Transportation announced on April 2 that pavement repair work will begin the week of April 6 on westbound Interstate 40 near Williams. The project will require a continuous lane closure and is expected to cause delays for drivers, especially during busy travel periods.
The repairs are located about three miles west of Williams at milepost 160. According to the department, crews will be present around the clock, and flaggers will help direct traffic as needed. The work is scheduled for completion by late summer.
This project follows damage sustained in March 2025 when a multi-vehicle crash and fire affected the pavement in this area. Planned tasks include removing temporary pavement, replacing damaged guardrail, adding new pavement, and installing lane stripes along with other markings.
