The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that the westbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) on-ramp at 27th Avenue will be closed for about two months beginning at 11:30 p.m. on Monday, October 6. The closure is part of a larger freeway widening project taking place west of Interstate 17.
During this period, drivers who typically use the 27th Avenue on-ramp are advised to use the westbound on-ramp at 35th Avenue instead. ADOT expects to reopen the closed ramp in early December.
The $140 million project, which started in September 2024, aims to widen Loop 101 between I-17 and 75th Avenue by adding an extra lane in each direction. Other improvements include expanding several bridges, enhancing frontage roads, constructing retaining and screen walls, and upgrading freeway lighting. The entire project is expected to be completed by spring 2027.
Further information about the project can be found at azdot.gov/loop101-75th-I-17.
ADOT is managing this effort in partnership with the cities of Phoenix, Glendale, and Peoria as well as the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG). MAG serves as the metropolitan planning organization for greater Phoenix. The work is scheduled under MAG’s Regional Transportation Plan and funded through Proposition 400—a countywide half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements approved by voters in 2004.
