Yuma County Public Health District issued the following announcement on Aug. 6.

Yuma County Health Officials confirm 55 new cases of COVID-19 and 0 new deaths, bringing the total cases to 37,741 and total deaths to 853. Health officials are conducting contact investigations.

COVID-19 cases are increasing in our community. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself, your family, and your community. Vaccines are effective in preventing severe illness, hospitalization, and death; they also help reduce the spread of the virus in our community. Data shows that the Delta variant currently circulating in our community is much more contagious, and spreads more than twice as easily from one person to another compared to earlier strains.

The Health District will provide COVID-19 vaccine clinics Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 11:30 am throughout the month of August. Walk-ins are welcome. Only Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will be available.   

The Moderna vaccine currently can be given to anyone age 18 and over.
