Governor Doug Ducey took to Twitter to comment on the Aug. 2 Republican Primary, saying that it was an "important election" and calling for Arizona to rally behind Republican candidates.

"The votes are counted, the races are settled, and the Arizona Republican primary is over," he said in a Twitter post on Aug. 6. "Thank you to all who participated — it’s not easy subjecting yourself to the scrutiny of being a candidate these days."

Ducey also commented on the importance of the primary election to select a Republican candidate for his office, which was won by Kari Lake.

"This is going to be an important election given the issues our state is facing and it’s important for Arizona Republicans to unite behind our slate of candidates," he said.

"As co-chairman of the Republican Governors Association, our organization is already active on the airwaves supporting Kari Lake’s candidacy," Ducey Tweeted. "Congratulations to Kari on a hard-fought victory and to all the candidates who will be carrying the GOP banner in November."

Of her victory, Lake said she had driven "a stake through the heart of the McCain machine."

Ducey also called on Republicans to battle to keep control of the governor's office.

"We have three months to go and a lot of work to do to ensure Arizona remains a beacon of freedom and prosperity," he said in a Twitter post. "The first part of the election is over — now conservatives and Republicans of all stripes have to work together to finish the job in November!"
