Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday to honor Joe Hart, former state mine inspector and member of the Arizona House of Representatives, who died Sept. 11 at age 78.
Hart served in the state House of Representatives from 1992 to 2001 and served as speaker pro-temp and chairman of several committees, according to a release from the governor’s office. In 2006, he was named the 11th state mine inspector, where he would serve for 15 years.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of former Arizona Representative and state Mine Inspector Joe Hart,” Ducey said in the statement. “A pillar of state government, he was a dedicated advocate for the mining industry and played a critical role in overseeing the safety at Arizona’s mines.
“A lifelong Kingman resident, Inspector Hart proudly served the people of Arizona for decades. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this time,” Ducey added.
