The nursing program at Eastern Arizona College has been ranked the No. 1 program in Arizona by the nursing advocacy group RegisteredNursing.org.

“We are so proud to be ranked the No. 1 nursing school in Arizona,” Sara Lemley, nursing and nursing assistant programs director, said in a story by Payson Roundup.

The award was based on exam scores by the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX), which are used in the ranking process. The 2021 graduating class at Eastern Arizona College (EAC) passed the NCLEX with a score of 96.67%, the story reported, while the nationwide pass percentage for the NCLEX was 82.48%, and the average pass rate for Arizona was 87.37%.

“EAC’s nursing program has remarkable faculty and an extraordinary student body. We are dedicated to helping our graduates become safe, caring and accountable professional nurses,” Lemley said.

A nursing advocacy organization, RegisteredNursing.org analyzed 34 schools in Arizona and ranked the top 10, using pass rates from the NCLEX, Payson Roundup reported.

“We are proud to be at the top of the list of so many esteemed nursing programs,” EAC President Todd Haynie said in the story. “This recognition speaks volumes about how much our faculty and staff care about preparing outstanding practitioners and leaders.”

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey took to Twitter to congratulate the program.

"We know nurses are everyday superheroes," he wrote. "Eastern Arizona College is training the future of health care & was recognized for its excellent work! Way to go!"
