Amazon received $5 million in subsidies, tax breaks, and grants from Arizona communities for two projects.

Advocacy group Good Jobs First, which opposes such subsidies, found Arizona provided the 35th-highest amount of grants and breaks among U.S. states to the nearly $1-trillion company.

Arizona is ranked behind New Mexico (1 project/$5 million) and ahead of Nevada (5 projects/$3 million), Rhode Island (1 project/$3 million), and Maine (11 projects/$578,828).

The most expensive subsidy provided in Arizona is from an undisclosed municipality. It's worth $4 million in job creation grants and EZ tax breaks, but provided information does not specify where the money comes from and for what project in which area of the state.

The second largest subsidy was worth $739,671 for a job training grant in Phoenix.

There was one development which received undisclosed subsidy amounts.

Arizona does not offer many subsidies provided by other states, such as film subsidies, but it does have a significant problem reporting what subsidies are offered.

For example, the cost of the largest tax expenditure in the state, known as the Research and Development Non-Refundable Tax Credit, aren't disclosed at all by the state government.

As of Nov. 17, 2022, Amazon had received 310 separate tax break deals from local and state governments across the U.S., totaling $5.14 billion. The state of Virginia was home to the largest portion of these taxpayer-subsidized Amazon projects.
